The milk booths operating on municipal land are likely to be face the music after the civic body recently learnt that despite operating on their land, the booths have not been paying up the due revenues.

The Municipal Corporation is conducting an assessment of all such milk booths operating from municipal land.

The issue came to light when Sector 51 residents approached Mayor Anu Chatrath alleging misbehaviour by a vita boothowner. The residents accused the boothowner of encroaching upon the greenbelt and parking space in the area.

The mayor went for an inspection in the area and while questioning the boothowner, she learnt that the civic body was not receiving revenue from the booths. Following this, she asked for the number of booths present in the area and the revenue that the civic body is entitled to receive from them. The report would be presented before the Finance and Contract Committee, following which a decision would be taken on the rent to be charged.

The MC would prepare another report on the liquor vends operating from municipal land. While the civic body is receiving rent from operators, there is a proposal to review the amount being charged. During 2006-07,the rent was taken by the UT Excise department and forwarded to the civic body. The following year, the MC started collecting the rent directly from liquor vends. In a meeting held in March,a proposal had been put before the F&CC,but no decision was taken. The same would be reviewed in the forthcoming meeting of the F&CC.
