The midday meal programme, with its success at the elementary level, may now reach students up to senior secondary classes within next five years. This forms part of the proposals under the state quality vision document for Chandigarh. A 13-member team has been constituted to finalise this vision document proposed for next five years at the State Institute of Education (SIE),Chandigarh in collaboration with Sarv Shiksha Abhiyan.

To make RTE fully operationalised the vision document has proposed to fill the 600 vacant seats of teachers which also bridge the gap between the pupil-teacher ratio in the schools. It is noted that out of 1100 posts sanctioned under SSA,480 are already working. Another proposal under it is to develop schools as quality institutes for students and for making teachers, more techno-savvy.

“SSA is going to extend itself to creches,pre-nursery and nursery level under the Early Childhood Care and Education (ECCE) program, where their nutrition will be taken care of by providing fruits and a nutrition rich diet and a medical support through regular health check ups. As pre-nursery is the base of a child and it needs to be strengthened. More creches will be opened and a healthy atmosphere will be created for the children of 0-5 age group,” said Rajni Mahajan,State Pedagogy Coordinator.
