MHRD sanctions over 850 posts for SSA teachers’ recruitment

The Ministry of Human Resource and Development (MHRD) has sanctioned 850 posts for recruitment of Sarv Shiksha Abhiyan (SSA) teachers in Chandigarh government schools for the post of Trained Graduate Teachers and Junior Basic Teachers. An official from the UT Education Department confirmed that the recruitments will be completed within a month,ahead of the beginning of new academic session in April.

The first lot of SSA teachers was recruited in Chandigarh in 2005. Nearly 60 per cent of the total 1,100 teachers had resigned from the posts since 2007,with no new recruitments being made till date. The key cause for the consequent resignations was the Administration’s reluctance in regularisation of the teachers,since all teachers had been recruited on contractual basis. As per officials,the new recruitments will be made on contractual basis and the teachers will be regularised in the beginning of the new session.
