Mohali Municipal Council (MC) senior vice-president Harman Preet Singh Prince has taken up the cause of Mohalis declining green cover.
In collaboration with various educational, financial, health, commercial organisations and non-government organizations (NGOs),the senior Akali leader on Monday launched a special drive to plant 20,000 saplings of shady, ornamental, fruit and various other types of trees in different parts of the city.
The Green Initiative assumed significance and was first after hundreds of full-grown green trees were axed to allow widening of roads and other major development projects initiated by the Greater Mohali Area Development Authority (GMADA). In todays drive, the HDFC Bank supported the tree plantation drive undertaken in and around Phase VII here.
Axing trees on a massive scale has greatly affected the environment around us and it has become imperative to do something about their conservation as no government agency has yet bothered to retain citys green buffer zone, said Prince, while speaking at the Van Mahautsavas launching ceremony.
