It is a catch-22 situation for aspirants to the MBBS and BDS courses in colleges under Baba Farid University of Health Sciences,Faridkot.
Though the new academic session kicked off about a month ago,the university seems to be in no hurry to conduct the long pending second counselling for admissions to the courses. It has put the candidates in a peculiar situation as some refused to take admission in colleges outside the state hoping to clear the second counselling, while others who have already taken admission in BDS courses hope to make it to MBBS stream
I had to take the seat in MBBS course under management quota, which is thrice as costly as a government quota seat. If second counselling was conducted in time,I could have got a seat under the government quota, said a student of Punjab Institute of Medical Sciences (PIMS),Jalandhar, requesting anonymity.
Another student, from Medical College,Patiala, who got a BDS seat is still hoping to make it to the MBBS stream if the second counselling is conducted.
The parents, too, are a worried lot. The university authorities are not ready to announce the date for the second counselling. We are hopeful that our children will make it to MBBS through government quota seat, said a group of parents at PIMS.
Meanwhile, the staff at the admission branch said that the registrar would decide the date. Registrar Dr Darshan Singh was not available for his comments and his office staff passed the buck onto the deputy registrar Satpal Singhs office. The person attending phone at the deputy registrars office said the second counselling would be conducted in September only. However, the person who refused to give his name, didnt give the date.
It may be noted that the first counselling for more than 2,000 MBBS and BDS was conducted around two months ago.
