Manimajra man shot at as assailants escape with Rs 70,000 from shop

A Manimajra-based shopkeeper sustained a gunshot injury on the hand after three assailants attacked him and looted Rs 70,000 from his shop late on Friday night.

A Manimajra-based shopkeeper sustained a gunshot injury on the hand after three assailants attacked him and looted Rs 70,000 from his shop late on Friday night.

According to police,the incident took place around 11 pm when three motorcycle-borne youths opened fire on the Vishal Dairy shop. Two bullets hit a car parked outside the shop,while one bullet hit Vishal Chugh,the shopkeeper.

“When I sustained the injury on my hand,I ran for cover. The assailants put the money in their bag and sped away on their motorcycles,” Vishal told the police.

Based on inputs provided by the shopkeeper,the sketches of the assailants have been prepared,said a police officer,while adding that the cartridges of the bullets fired have been recovered from the spot.

Deputy Superintendent of Police (East) J S Cheema said: “Various teams have been constituted to nab the accused. A case under Section 379 has been registered in the Manimajra police station. The cartridges will be sent to the Central Forensic Science Laboratory for examination.”
