The grief-stricken family members of Manav Garg, who died under mysterious circumstances four days back, have alleged foul play behind the death of the 21-year-old. Claiming that there were a few loopholes in the Chandigarh Police’s claims, the family also accused the police of ignoring ‘certain facts’ about the incident.

The family says that the day Manav’s belongings were handed over to them, police did not mention the presence of any capsules beside his body. “It was just in the later reports that they found out about the capsules,” said Manvi, the deceased’s sister.

Manvi,a nursing student, added: “ I started calling Manav around 9:15 pm but the phone was busy. I last had a word with him around 9:37 pm and he was with a girl who later rang up to inform us that Manav will not return home that night. He told me not to worry and that he will return. It did not appear from his voice that he was under the influence of drugs. He also informed me that he was not involved in whatever happened at the Institute and that he was being dragged into the matter”.

She further told Newsline that the girl behaved in an odd manner. “I had also spoken with the girl who told me that she,Manav and their friends were in Baddi. Later when I called him again the girl picked up the phone and hung up immediately when I told her to give the phone to Manav.” Manvi added.

Poonam Garg,Manav’s mother too had a similar story to tell. “ Manav had never hidden anything from me. He had mentioned about this girl to me and that she was like a sister to him. My son was not a drug addict and I strongly believe that he has been murdered. We suspect the involvement of the other students in his murder. The police has been influenced and is hiding facts”,she said.

Ashok Bansal, uncle of the deceased, said: “His mysterious death has left many questions unanswered and I want the police to probe into the matter. There is much more to what the police is saying. We just want that the culprits to be arrested”.
