Man held in Punjab’s Mohali district for opium cultivation, 447 poppy plants seized from his fields

The police in Punjab’s Mohali district on Thursday arrested a man involved in the illegal cultivation of opium. The police also seized 447 poppy plants from his field.

Derabassi Station House Officer (SHO) Sub-Inspector Ajitesh Kaushal said, “We received information that Harwinder Singh, a resident of Derabassi town, was illegally growing poppy plants.”

Kaushal added, “We raided the field and seized the 447 plants weighing 14.9 kg. Singh used to extract opium from the poppy plants.”

The police booked Singh under Sections 18, 61 and 85 of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act.
