A team from the Sector 39 police station, along with experts from the Central Forensic Science Laboratory (CFSL), reached the scene and began collecting evidence.A man allegedly killed his 55-year-old mother by slitting her throat at their house in Chandigarh’s Sector 40 Monday morning.
The victim, Sushila Negi, a widow, was staying wth the accused, Ravi Negi, 32, an employee of Panjab University (PU), Chandigarh, in their house, said the police. Her elder son is reportedly settled abroad.
According to the police, a heated argument broke out between the mother and son in the morning. The verbal altercation soon escalated, and in a fit of rage, Ravi allegedly attacked his mother with a sharp-edged weapon, slitting her throat. The woman died on the spot, said the police.
Sources said that after committing the crime, the accused left his mother lying in a pool of blood inside the house and fled from the scene. Neighbours, on noticing blood stains and hearing distressing noises earlier, alerted the police, who rushed to the spot.

An FIR under Section 103 (murder) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) has been registered at the Sector 39 police station, Chandigarh. The body of the deceased has been shifted to the Government Multi-Speciality Hospital (GMSH), Sector 16, for post-mortem examination.
The police confirmed that Ravi has been absconding since the murder. Multiple teams have been formed to trace and apprehend the accused. The police are also probing possible motives behind the murder, including reported domestic disputes and financial issues.
A police officer said further investigation is underway, and efforts are underway to nab the accused soon.
