Man held for vehicle theft; six motorcycles,4 scooters recovered

A Special Team of Chandigarh Police arrested a man accused of vehicle theft from Dadumajra area on Tuesday.

A Special Team of Chandigarh Police arrested a man accused of vehicle theft from Dadumajra area on Tuesday. Rakesh Kumar (35) is allegedly involved in over 12 cases of theft. Police also recovered vehicles that include six motorcycles and four scooters.

After an FIR of bike theft was filed at Sector 22 police station,police nabbed Rakesh along with the bike following a tip-off.

The accused is wanted in four different cases of motorcycle theft registered in police stations in Sectors 39,36,11 and 17.

Police investigation found that Rakesh used to abandon the stolen vehicles when it ran out of petrol. The police confirmed that unlike other vehicle lifters,he never sold stolen vehicles. DSP Ashish Kapoor said,“As of now,he doesn’t seem to be a member of any gang of vehicle lifters”.

Kapoor also said that the accused has been booked for six different cases of theft in the last eight years at the Sector 17 police station alone.
