Ludhiana: Five held from Jindi group; heroin, 12.10 lakh drug money, five illegal weapons recovered

The Ludhiana police Thursday arrested five miscreants from the group of habitual offender Jatinder Kumar alias Jindi, and recovered drugs, cash and illegal weapons from them. Police said that the accused were also involved in betting on cricket matches of the ongoing Indian Premier League (IPL).

The arrested persons were identified as Jindi’s nephew Maninderjit Singh alias Mani of Indira Colony, and four others — Akhil Sabharwal alias Prince of Kanija road, Gaurav Dang of Bal Singh Nagar, Sukhjinder Singh alias Chhotu Musa of Indira Colony and Paramjit Singh alias Pamma of Golden Avenue Colony.

Police said that one .12 bore rifle, four illegal pistols, 525 gm heroin, Rs 12.10 lakh drug money, 12 bullets, two mini telephone exchanges that could handle at least 500 calls at a time and another Rs 4 lakh in cash which they had allegedly earned from betting, were recovered from the accused.

Sabharwal is already facing trial in four cases including attempt to murder, drug peddling and theft. Dang has two cases of attempt to murder pending against him. Paramjit Singh is facing trial in five cases including possessing illegal weapons, assault and liquor smuggling, said police.

Jindi is a close aide of gangster Puneet Bains and is still absconding. Wanted in several cases, Jindi had tried to run over a police team in October 2022 near Jalandhar bypass of Ludhiana and had managed to escape. He was booked for attempt to murder.

A fresh FIR under sections 22/61/85 of NDPS Act and 25/54/59 of Arms Act was registered against Sabharwal, Dang, Sukhjinder was registered at division number 4 police station for recovery of heroin, drug money and weapons. Another FIR against Paramjit has been registered under sections 420 of IPC and 13-A/3/67 of Gambling Act at Jodhewal police station for recovery of telephone exchanges and Rs 4 lakh betting money. Maninderjit was arrested in an old case of March 2020 for stealing a 12 DBBL gun for which the FIR was registered at Koomkalan police station on March 6, 2020.
