The Ludhiana court of additional session judge Amarjeet Singh (fast track court for POCSO cases) Friday convicted a man from Bihar for trying to rape a five-year old girl. The court has awarded 10-year rigorous imprisonment to the accused along with a fine of Rs 1.10 lakh.
The court has also ordered that of the total fine amount, Rs 1 lakh will be given to the victim.
Public prosecutor BD Gupta said that on June 30, 2021, mother of the girl had filed a complaint that the accused Ajaul Ansari, 26, a native of Madhubani, Bihar who worked as a laborer in Ludhiana, tried to rape her 5-year old daughter. She had submitted that the accused had taken away her daughter by luring her with biscuits and then tried to rape her. However, hearing cries of the girl, locals had rescued her in time. An FIR was registered at Tibba police station of Ludhiana.
The court has convicted the accused and sentenced him to 10 years of rigorous imprisonment under section 18 of POCSO Act, 4 years of imprisonment under 363 of IPC and five years of imprisonment under section 366-A of IPC. However, all sentences will run concurrently, said the court.
