After Punjab Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal sanctioned Rs 3.70 crore for construction of new roads in Mohali and asked officials to identify possible routes for city bus services, the Municipal Corporation has started a survey for the same but the absence of a working bus stand is turning out to be a problem in the city.

The new ISBT, which is still under construction, will take some more time for completion and the absence of a proper bus stand may again come in the way of the much awaited project.
The municipal corporation said that they have been asked only to identify the routes and the state Transport Department and Greater Mohali Area Development Authority (GMADA) are supposed to decide where the buses will be stationed.

“ISBT is still incomplete, Phase VIII bus stand is in dilapidated condition, there is no proper parking space and many other problems, the people will rather face problems with the start of the city bus service, there should be a specific plan,” said an MC official.

Speaking to Chandigarh Newsline, MC Commissioner, Uma Shankar Gupta, said that they have started the work to identify the routes but it is not their responsibility to identify the place where the buses will be parked.

He said that they will submit their plan within the given time of 15 days following which it would be up to the transport department and GMADA to take the decision.

The completion of the ISBT in Phase VI in the near future is still a question as around 20 percent work of the building is still pending.
