Labourer murders man over ‘theft’ of utensils

A minor altercation between two labourers over an alleged theft of utensils resulted in one of them murdering the other near his hutment behind a mosque near Housing Board lightpoint on Tuesday morning.

A minor altercation between two labourers over an alleged theft of utensils resulted in one of them murdering the other near his hutment behind a mosque near Housing Board lightpoint on Tuesday morning.

The victim was identified as Munshi Ram,45,while the accused as Amresh Singh alias Thakur,who was arrested by Chandigarh Police later.

According to the police,the victim was present in his jhuggi when the accused allegedly came with a saw-blade and hit Ram’s throat. “According to Singh,he was angry with Ram as he had stolen his utensils. That’s why he went over to Ram’s jhuggi and made a cut on his neck using the sharp blade of the saw,” said Ranjeet Singh,the investigating officer in the case.

The incident happened around 10 in the morning. Ram’s daughter who was present in the jhuggi called the police,who nabbed the accused.

A case has been registered under Section 302 of the IPC at Manimajra police station.
