Kings’ campaign begins today

The PCA Stadium will be under a three-tier security cover as home team Kings XI Punjab gears up for its first match of the third Indian Premier League against Delhi Daredevils,scheduled for Saturday evening.

To handle a crowd of 35,000 inside,and some more outside,1,583 police personnel will be deployed,said SSP Gurpreet Singh Bhullar. The stadium will host five matches this IPL season.

The gates will be opened three hours before the start of the match to provide the security personnel enough time to frisk and screen spectators thoroughly,and to avoid any last-minute stampede for entry to the stadium.

Six SPs,34 DSPs,29 inspectors,170 sub-inspectors and assistant sub-inspectors,269 head constables,958 constables,61 women constables,eight mounted staff and 48 traffic cops will be among the police personnel deputed inside and outside the stadium.

The police control room (PCR),DSP (City-II) and station house officers of Phase VIII and XI will work as usual even on match days,the SSP said.

Yuvi,VRV dodge security

Local boys Yuvraj Singh and V R V Singh ventured out of the team hotel without informing the security officials on Thursday. “We have written to the IPL about the matter,” said DSP (Security) K S Pannu. Yuvraj has been involved in such incidents earlier too.

Shuttle bus service will be available for the stadium from Guru Nanak Colony Chowk in Phase XI,City Park in Sector 68 and Dussehra Ground in Phase VIII. Six additional parking lots have been designated

Traffic closed on the road in front of the stadium and the one between Sector 46 and 47 approaching Mohali,from 5 pm until the end of the match proceedings. Traffic will be diverted from Guru Nanak Colony Chowk in Phase X,the PCA light point and the Phase IX petrol pump. Residents of around 300 houses in the stadium’s vicinity are exempted from diversions
