‘Killer’ couple’s police remand extended

The police remand of a Chandigarh couple,arrested for allegedly killing trader Anjani Kumar Tiwari,32,was on Sunday extended for another two days by a Kharar court.

The police remand of a Chandigarh couple,arrested for allegedly killing trader Anjani Kumar Tiwari,32,was on Sunday extended for another two days by a Kharar court.

Accepting the prosecution’s plea,Duty Magistrate Surjeet Singh extended the custody of Mintu Jha,32,an autorickshaw driver and his wife Manisha Jha,29,of Palsora in Sector 56,Chandigarh,and directed the police to produce them before the court on Tuesday,Assistant Sub-Inspector (ASI) Barma Singh,who produced the accused before the court,told Newsline.

The prosecution had sought the extension on the grounds of recovering the victim’s motorcycle and other valuables even as the spade and autorickshaw used in the crime and victim’s mobile phone and clothes were already recovered.

Since the victim’s motorcycle,around Rs 1 lakh cash and other valuables were still missing,the police wanted to interrogate the couple further.

On Wednesday,Manisha had reportedly called Tiwari,with whom she was allegedly having an illicit affair,on his mobile phone,asking him to meet her in Palsora. When he reached there,both rode on Tiwari’s bike to a deserted area behind Dara Studio in Phase VI on Wednesday night.

Mintu,who followed them in his autorickshaw,allegedly attacked Tiwari with a spade from behind,when Manisha and Tiwari were engaged in a conversation.

Tiwari ran a readymade garment store in Sector 19,Chandigarh ,and is survived by wife and two minor children.
