Pointing out that Aam Aadmi Party supremo Arvind Kejriwal and Punjab Chief Minsiter Bhagwant Mann had taken “vows to end the drug menace within four months of the formation of their government”, Punjab Leader of Opposition Partap Singh Bajwa on Sunday said that as both of them had grown a thicker skin. the deaths of Punjabi youth caused by drug overdose didn’t bother them anymore.

In a written statement, Bajwa said that “deaths of Punjabi youngsters due to drug abuse seemed to have become a new normal for the AAP legislators and Cabinet ministers. Such incidents now do not perturb and outrage the AAP leaders. He added, “Drug abuse deaths are becoming the news headlines almost every day now. In a video that went viral on social media recently, police personnel supposedly from Ferozepur district’s Makhu police station can be seen consuming drugs — most likely chitta. Those who are duty-bound to keep a check on the drug menace have themselves fallen prey to the drugs under the so-called Badlav government.”

He said that even SC had pulled up the AAP government over the drug menace and cautioned it of severe consequences. Yet, CM Bhagwant Mann-led Punjab government has failed terribly to prepare a roadmap to rein in the multiplying drug paddling.

He added, “Before the Assembly elections in 2022, Kejriwal and Mann used to accuse the leaders of the other parties of lax attitude on drug smuggling. Now it’s been 16 months, since the AAP got hold of power in Punjab, and drug abuse is augmenting rapidly. Now they must tell the people of Punjab about why the AAP government has remained unsuccessful to nab drug paddlers and to curb the menace despite the promise by the AAP supremo to end it within four months of government formation.”
