Newly appointed Himachal Pradesh Congress Committee president Kaul Singh Thakur will take charge of the party afresh on November 8. He proposes to invite all senior leaders, including Union ministers Virbhadra Singh and Anand Sharma, and ensure the presence of CLP leader Vidya Stokes on the day.
Kaul Singh had replaced Viplove Thakur in 2008 after she had resigned following Congresss defeat in the Assembly elections. This time,he has been formally elected to the post.
Hours after the party cleared his name,Kaul Singh visited his mother Kagdu Devi,84,to seek her blessings.
This is all because of the support of all senior leaders and grassroot party workers, who recognised my work in the last two years and entrusted me with the task of rejuvenating the party. I am really thankful to Sonia ji,who has reposed faith in me, he told The Indian Express over phone on his way to Delhi.
Kaul Singh admitted that Union minister Anand Sharma played a key role in facilitating his re-election,adding that he felt equally honoured to have drawn support from Virbhadra Singh and Vidya Stokes.
I have worked closely with Virbhadra Singh. He is a very senior leader totally committed to the party. Similarly,I will seek help from Vidya Stokes to strengthen the party and fight the BJP on immediate public issues, said the PCC president.
Stokes, meanwhile, hailed the appointment of Kaul Singh and hoped that his experience would help the party gain more strength.
