Accompanied by Rajya Sabha MP Balbir Seechewal and other officials, he assessed the progress and held discussions with representatives from the Municipal Corporation (MC) Ludhiana, Rural Development and Panchayats, Punjab Pollution Control Board (PPCB), Irrigation Department, Sewerage Board, and other agencies.
Kataria stressed the urgent need for stringent action against industries and dairy units polluting the nullah. He said that despite the concerted efforts of multiple agencies, the work was pending. He said that polluters must be held accountable to prevent further contamination. He directed the immediate demarcation of a 14-km stretch of the nullah.
Kataria, meanwhile, scheduled the next review meeting for December.
Ludhiana deputy commissioner Himanshu Jain also updated the Governor on plans to establish a biogas plant near Tajpur Road to curb dumping of cow dung into the water body, with the site nearly finalised in collaboration with the MC and PPCB.
During the inspection, Ludhiana MC commissioner Aaditya Dachalwal reported significant progress in tackling illegal cow dung dumping; noting that tenders for door-to-door cow dung collection would be awarded within next week to address the issue comprehensively. He added that authorities have registered over 100 FIRs and issued substantial fines to offending dairies
