Karnal youth killed in Arkansas as truck explodes

Talking to The Indian Express, Amit’s maternal uncle Harpal Singh said: “An overloaded truck switched lane and overtook Amit’s vehicle. Amit applied brakes and the truck veered off the road and crashed into trees. The diesel tank in the cabin exploded. The blast was so intense that the entire cabin in which Amit was sitting melted.”

Harpal added the police said that it was Amit. “But they wanted to carry out a DNA match to be sure. Samples from Amit’s brother Ankit has been taken for the test,” he said, adding that while Ankit went to the US 2016, Amit went in 2023.

He added that their father died nearly 15 years ago and the brothers wanted to earn big so went to the US via the “dunki route”.

“We sold two acres and gave nearly Rs 60 lakh to travel agents to send Amit to the US via the dunki route. He first started working there at a store in 2023 but later obtained a driving a licence and started driving a truck. Amit lives in California and on the day of the accident, he had gone to Arkansas to unload some material. The incident took place when he was returning to California,” Harpal said, adding that 15 minutes before the accident, Amit had spoken to Ankit over phone when he stoped at a gas station.
