The Dharamsala police on Thursday claimed that Tibetan religious head and 17th Karmapa Ogyen Trinley Dorje, who has been made an accused in the chargesheet filed by the Una police in connection with the foreign currency seizure case,is yet to confirm that he has the received the summons issued by a local court to appear before it on March 6.

Dharamsala ADGP S R Mardi claimed that there has been no confirmation about the receipt of the summons from the Karmapa’s office yet.

The Karmapa’s office, however, had denied allegations that the leader had refused to accept the summons, claiming that he is in Bodh Gaya till the second week of March. “It is wrong and improper to say that he (Karmapa) has refused to receive the summons. The fact is that he is not in Dharamsala for more than 15 days,” an official at the Karmapa’s office said.

We share his confidence that his innocence will be affirmed in the end,” he said.

The case is related to last year’s arrests of Rabgay Choesang aka Shakti Lama along with some locals after some cash was seized from the vehicle of a Dharamshala-based property dealer K P Bhardwaj and subsequent raids were carried out at Gyuto monastery near Dharamsala. Foreign currencies of 26 countries, valued at around Rs 7 crore were unearthed from the monastery.
