Jolly’s police remand extended by a day

A Lower court on Wednesday extended the police remand of the main accused in the teachers’ recruitment scam by a day.

A Lower court on Wednesday extended the police remand of the main accused in the teachers’ recruitment scam by a day. Jolly was taken on a day’s police remand yesterday after the police had booked him in another case of impersonation on October 14.

He was earlier booked in a case of cheating on September 8 for allegedly demanding Rs 4.5 lakh from Kamalpreet Kaur,a candidate who had applied for the post of a teacher in the UT Education department.

Asserting that the accused was not co-operating in the investigation and not divulging details, the police pressed for an extension of Jolly’s police remand by another three days in court. The police said the accused was using three SIM cards —all on fake identification proofs.

It was also said that no recovery has been made from him with regard to the fake proofs and documents he had made use of in order to obtain SIM cards. The Subscription Application Forms (SAF) were returned to Jolly after the verification process by the telecom company failed. The phone numbers were hence in use only for one week and were disconnected after that, the police said.

On the other hand, the defence counsel said the forms are with the telecom company and the accused has no role in the recovery. The court of Additional Chief Judicial Magistrate Anshul Berry granted a day’s police remand.
