Producing evidence in the form of call detail reports (CDR) and contradictory sequences recorded in the FIR,suspended IAS officer V K Janjua on Saturday claimed that the charges against him were fabricated and that he was the victim of a conspiracy.

Janjua has been under suspension in a corruption case since November last year. On Friday,he had filed a complaint against the Chief Director of the Punjab Vigilance Bureau,Sumesh Singh Saini, for manhandling him.

In a press conference on Saturday,Janjua produced the CDRs of complainant T R Mishra and others to prove that there were contradictions in the sequence of events that actually occurred on November 9 and those recorded in the FIR against him.

Janjua alleged that Mishra had acted under a conspiracy, which involved IAS officer S S Channy, who wanted to remove him from the post of Director Industries, and cabinet minister Inderjeet Singh Pradhan, who was the chairman of the Punjab Small Scale Industries Development Board and had made illegal demands from him.

Showing the call detail reports, which he claimed to have got from authentic sources, the 1989-batch IAS officer said he had carried out an investigation to prove that he was falsely implicated.

Janjua said call detail reports of the two mobile phone numbers of Mishra proved that he was never in the city on November 9 morning.

“Mishra has alleged that I demanded money from him at my residence on the morning of November 9,2009. But locations of his two mobile phone numbers reveal that he was not even in the city that morning, let alone being near Phase 7,Mohali,where I live and allegedly met him,” Janjua said. “Mishra was in Ludhiana till 8.38 am on November 9 and that is when he left for Chandigarh

Producing the CDRs of the phone numbers of Mishra and Ludhiana DSP (Vigilance) R S Brar between October 28 and November 9,he said as many as 12 calls were exchanged between them in that period.

He added on basis of the cell phone tower locations,Mishra and DSP Brar were travelling to Chandigarh on November 9,while the facts recorded in the FIR are contradictory.

The officer alleged that there were contradictions between the actual timing of the raid and those recorded in the FIR.

“The FIR says he (DSP Brar) started for the raid from Mohali at 10.55 am and briefed everyone about it,while the truth is that he reached Chandigarh at 10.50 am and was in Sector 15,Chandigarh,at that time,” he stated.

Janjua also questioned the source of Rs 2 lakh, which was allegedly recovered from his drawer. He said according to Mishra’s statement,he had demanded the money on November 9 but no money was withdrawn by Mishra from any of his bank accounts on that day.

He stated that on November 1,he had sent back Mishra’s file,in which request for a vacant land was made,as it did not fall under his purview.

“As for Vigilance Bureau (VB) head Sumesh Singh Saini,he craves to revive his so-called heroism every now and then, and it was one of his acts to do so,” Janjua alleged. He added that the conspiracy was hatched at the behest of Saini,as “he wished to have another feather in his cap”.

Janjua said he was physically manhandled by the VB team on the day they conducted the raid. “They should be booked for using criminal force against me and hitting me,” he said.

The officer said if the Chandigarh Police did not register a case against them,he would take legal recourse and seek an investigation by the Central Bureau of Investigation.

Replying to questions about his links with Industry minister Manoranjan Kalia,Janjua said he was not implicated because of the Akali versus Kalia issue but it was only a case of the VB head seeking ‘heroism’.
