Jakhar’s poser to Mann: Punjab elected you as CM, why call ‘outside CM’ for inaugurations
He sought to know what happened to the promise of generating Rs 30,000 crore of additional revenue from transparent sand auctioning, reformed liquor policy and other avenues.

Punjab BJP chief Sunil Jakhar Tuesday questioned Bhagwant Mann over calling Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal to Punjab to inaugurate welfare schemes and said people of the state have elected him as their chief minister and there was “no need to get a certificate” from the AAP national convenor.
His remarks came a day after AAP national convener and Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal visited Patiala for the launch of the ‘Sehatmand Punjab’ mission aimed at rejuvenating government hospitals in Punjab. Kejriwal along with Mann also launched an intensive care unit and other facilities at Mata Kaushalya Hospital in Patiala.
“What is the need to get a certificate from Kejriwal? Mann has been elected by Punjabis. Prior to this, Kejriwal had inaugurated a School of Eminence (in Amritsar). I will not call it inauguration, but re-dedication of a Smart School which already existed. Will a hospital ward, a school inauguration and other inaugurations be done by the chief minister from outside? Is Bhagwant Mann not capable of doing this? Is Punjab without a chief minister that we need to frequently call a CM from another state for inaugurations,” Jakhar asked, addressing a press conference at BJP headquarters.
Asking Mann to “pagri sambhal jatta (take care of your turban)”, Jakhar said the AAP government has playing a “cruel joke” on Punjabis in the name of ‘Sehatmand Punjab’. All the AAP dispensation had to showcase in the name of the scheme was a 10-bed refurbished hospital ward, the BJP leader alleged.
He claimed that the ruling AAP was desperate to seek credit for acts which were otherwise the government’s duty. He sought to know what happened to the promise of generating Rs 30,000 crore of additional revenue from transparent sand auctioning, reformed liquor policy and other avenues.
“This government has failed utterly on each parameter and the mounting debt on Punjab should worry every Punjabi. If we only keep paying interest on debt by taking more loans, it is a sure-shot recipe for financial ruin,” Jakhar added.
The BJP leader also said that Kejriwal’s remarks asking all parties to expel their leaders who were involved in drugs were actually “a warning for Punjab Congress”.
He said, in Delhi Kejriwal, while reacting to arrest of Congress MLA Sukhpal Singh Khaira in a drugs case, had said that “a person had been arrested in Punjab and he did not have much information on that”. This despite the fact that Khaira remained the Leader of Opposition when he was in AAP.
“Kejriwal message was a warning for the tainted leaders,” Jakhar said, without taking any names. Jakhar also accused Mann of misusing official machinery like PRTC buses and assigning duties to teachers, rural development and revenue officials for political events.
