It’s (privatisation of paid parking lots) my brainchild, I will convince the adviser: Chandigarh Mayor Arun Sood
Sood said that the reason for the UT administration not going in for the implementation of this project was a deadlock between the MC and the administration.
For newly elected Mayor Arun Sood, privatisation of paid parking lots is high on his agenda despite the proposal being rejected by the UT Administration.
Talking to Chandigarh Newsline, Sood said that the reason for the UT administration not going in for the implementation of this project was a deadlock between the MC and the administration. “This project is my brainchild. I will convince the adviser, meet the officers concerned just to try it once,” he said.
He added, “In fact, many issues between the administration and MC are due to poor coordination. I will break the deadlock and will make all efforts to get the project implemented.”

A month ago, the Municipal Corporation faced flak from the administration for mooting such a proposal. The agenda to hike fee for paid parking was rejected thrice in the House and BJP councillor Arun Sood mooted that the MC should go in for privatisation of paid parking lots in three sectors on a pilot basis. However, it was rejected by the administration.
Listing out his priorities, Sood said that he would ensure there were no new taxes in the city and UT got a smart city tag. “I promise the city residents that there will be no more taxes. Also, we will get the smart city tag. I will get innovative ideas for the development of the city,” he said.
Regarding the inclusion of villages within the MC jurisdiction, Sood said that he was totally against it and he wanted to strengthen the Panchayati Raj system. Attributing his success to the party workers, he said that he was happy that the leaders rose above differences and made the BJP victorious.
