Inmates clash inside jail,cops among 10 injured

Huge drama unfolded in the Ludhiana Central Jail on Thursday after five inmates and as many policemen were injured in a clash between two groups of inmates,nearly 80 in total.

Huge drama unfolded in the Ludhiana Central Jail on Thursday after five inmates and as many policemen were injured in a clash between two groups of inmates,nearly 80 in total. The injured are being treated in a hospital inside the jail complex.

Even as jail authorities are not ready to divulge any details of the clash,it has been learnt that one group known as Rangi group clashed with another called the Bongar group.

Jail Superintendent Surinderpal Khanna said the clash broke out due to rivalry between the leaders of the two groups. It all started around 7 pm and caught the police,who were completely outnumbered,off guard. The two groups pelted chairs,tables and stones at each other.

Ludhiana Police Commissioner Ishwar Singh said: “We deployed forces on the jail premises and brought the situation under control. Those involved in the clash have been lodged in separate barracks.”
