Three policemen,including Baltana police post in-charge Gurwant Singh,sustained injuries when a group of inebriated locals thrashed them at the Ravindra Enclave in Dhakoli on Friday evening. The police party,on getting the information of a clash among locals,had gone to the spot to control the situation.
Gurwant Singh fractured one of his arms and was rushed to the Civil Hospital. Investigating Officer Anup Singh told Newsline that they got a complaint from Sandeep Rana,who runs a shop in Ravindra Enclave,that he was beaten up by his neighbour Sunny Arora and his friends.
Subsequently,Baltana police post head sent two policemen to bring Sunny Arora to the police post for interrogation. But when the policemen reached Sunnys place,Sunny along with his mother Veena Arora,sister Aarti Arora and a number of shopkeepers again reached Sandeeps house and against started thrashing him for informing the police.
Sensing trouble,Sandeeps son again called up Baltana police post in-charge,who this time himself rushed the spot along with two constables. But before they could arrest the culprits,the policemen were assaulted by the accused. Constables Major Singh and Satwinder Singh also sustained injuries and their uniforms were also torn.
Zirakpur Station House Officer Sukhwinder Singh said accused Sunny Arora and his accomplices were in an inebriated state when they assaulted the policemen.
The police have booked Sunny Arora,Veena Arora,Aarti Arora along with seven other shopkeepers and arrested three accused while Sunny and other six accused are still at large.
