This week, the strains of the sarangi met the bellow of the accordion at a studio in Edinburgh University as two Indian indie artistes got together with two Scottish acts to work on an album. Sarangi player and member of the Delhi-based band Advaita,Suhail Yusuf Khan, and folk rocker Raghu Dixit collaborated with Scotland-based indie singer-songwriter Kenny Anderson aka King Creosote and band,The Pictish Trail. Titled The Dewarist Sessions,Part 1,the album will have about 10 tracks and is expected to release later this year. “The album is a mix of modern-contemporary sounds and traditional Indian and Scottish music since a variety of genres and musicians are part of this project,” says Khan, over the phone from Edinburgh. Dixit’s tracks Baatein and Mysore se aayee are part of this album but here’s the twist —

Anderson has played the accordion to these tracks and customised them to this jugalbandi of sounds.
