A local court in Kullu Monday warned a hotel owner — who had filed a police complaint against some people from Punjab for allegedly displaying flags with slain militant Jarnail Singh Bhindranwale’s image on their motorbikes — against interfering with pilgrims , their religious practices or their display of sacred symbols and indulging in activities that may disrupt the harmony between the two states.

Taking up a complaint filed by the State of Himachal Pradesh through Jari police post under Sections 126 and 129 of the BNSS, 2023, the court of Sub Divisional Magistrate Vikas Shukla directed hotelierv Aman Sood to furnish a security bond of Rs 50,000 and directed him to appear at Jari police post on first Saturday of every month for the next six months.

“Any breach of this order shall render the respondent (Sood) liable to penalties, including arrest and prosecution as deemed fit by law in addition to forfeiture of the surety amount,” the court said in the order issued under Section 136 of BNSS, 2023.

Sood, in his complaint had alleged that while he was going to Kullu he saw some bikers — flags bearing photos of Bhindranwale — fighting with a man and woman near Manikaran. When asked to remove the flags, he said the bikers attacked the people around with a sword and stick due to which he sustained head injury.

Pronouncing the order, the SDM court said: “…In these videos, he can be seen disrespecting the Nishan Sahib, forcibly restraining pilgrims and removing flags from their bikes… misrepresenting it as a “Khalistan Flag” to incite communal tension… to fracture the centuries-old bond between Hindus and Sikhs in this region,” read the court order.”
