Already Struggling with a shortage of doctors, Haryana now is facing a new crisis with more than 100 medical officers resigning from the service in less than two years of joining the service.
While the government hasn’t yet disclosed the reason behind such large number of resignations, some medical officers have indicated that it is mostly due to the salary structure, which is not on a par with what is being offered in private sector, heavy work load and introduction of the new pension scheme.
Data reveals that 92 government medical officers resigned in Haryana in 2022.
Another 22 have resigned till now this year. Apart from the resignations, 13 others have opted for VRS. They include eight, of which seven were senior medical officers, who took VRS in 2022 and another five this year.
The situation has emerged at a time when the state is already facing a shortfall of over 21 per cent medical officers for the government hospitals and dispensaries.
Against the total 3,915 sanctioned posts of medical officers, 840 are vacant. The percentage of vacant posts at senior level, is over 38 per cent.
