IKTAJ (4 for 8) and Aniket (3 for 12) produced superb bowling performances as St Anne’s Convent School,Sector 32,Chandigarh beat St Joseph’s Convent School,Sector 44 by seven runs in a nail-biting final to win the UT Inter School Cricket Tournament for Under-14 boys at Government Model Senior Secondary School,Sector 26 (TM),on Friday.
St Anne’s-32 won the toss and chose to bat first. Riding on Raj Kanwal’s unbeaten 15 and Rashandeep’s knock of 14 runs,they scored 74 runs in 20 overs. For St Joseph’s-44,the bowling honours went to Avneet Singh who grabbed four wickets for eight runs.
Chasing the modest target,St Jospeh’s-44 batsmen fell like ninepins and were bundled out for 67 runs in 18 overs. Karan top scored with 27 runs. Iktaj and Aniket bowled well for St Anne’s-32 to steer the team to title win. Meanwhile,Saupin’s School,Sector 32,Chandigarh claimed the third spot.
Meanwhile,Government Model Senior Secondary School,Sector 10,Chandigarh emerged as the overall winners of the boys’ Under-17 in the Inter School Fencing competition being held at Government Model Senior Secondary School in Sector 10. The team garnered 54 points. Shri Guru Harkrishan Public School,Sector 40,Chandigarh came second with 16 points while Bhavan Vidyalaya,Sector 27,Chandigarh finished third with ten points.
The hosts GMSSS-10 team claimed titles in the team epee,foil and sabre events. Similarly,Amit,Sumit and Harsh,all of GMSSS-10,emerged winners in individual foil,epee and sabre events respectively.
Meanwhile,in inter school chess competition in Under-14 age category held at Government Model High School,Sector 38,Chandigarh,the first position went to Delhi Public School,Sector 40. The second and third places were claimed by St Kabir School,Sector 26 and St Stephen’s School,Sector 45,respectively. DAV School,Sector 8,finished fourth.
Similarly,in the inter school softball tournament,Ankur School,Sector 14,registered an easy 12-2 win against Government High School,Sector 11 in girls’ Under-14 category. In the same age category,Government Model Senior Secondary School,Sector 35,was thrashed 1-11 by St Anne’s School,Sector 32. Meanwhile,in Under-17 age category,Government Model High School,Sector 39,outplayed Government Girls Model Senior Secondary School,Sector 20,by 15-5 and Government Girls Model Senior Secondary School,Sector 20 registered a comfortable 12-2 win over Government Model Senior Secondary School,Sector 37.
In the boys’ section,Government Model Senior Secondary School,Sector 35 defeated Government Model High School,Sector 37 by 18-10 while AKSIPS-41 recorded a facile 11-1 win over Government Model High School,Sector 39 in boys’ Under-14 age category.
In the same age category,Government Model Senior Secondary School,Sector 15 overcame Government Model Senior Secondary School,Sector 46 by 11-9 and Sri Guru Harkrishan Model School,Sector 38 received walkover Government Model Senior Secondary School,Sector 44. In another match,Government Model Senior Secondary School,Sector 33 thrashed St Anne’s,Sector 32 by 11-0.
