The India International Friendship Society (IIFS),New Delhi has selected Vinod Sharma,principal of Government Model Senior Secondary School Sector 34,for the Shiksha Rattan Puraskar for his contribution in the field of education,teachers welfare,research and academics. The award will be presented to Sharma on August 24 at a function being organised by the IIFS at New Delhi. While talking to the Chandigarh Newsline,Sharma said,IIFS has now put more responsibilities on me to serve the students,teachers community and children with disability. My main objective is to support all students and teachers in their respective projects and my dream to transform every child into a human being with leadership qualities has landed me here. Despite being disabled,I never looked back and worked harder so that I could share knowledge and contribute towards the student community, Sharma said. Sharma started his career as a lecturer in Dhanwantri Ayurvedic College in 1978. In 1979,he started working for the education department. After joining GMSSS-34 as a head master in 2011,he was elected as the president of Government Teachers Union (GTU). Sharma also heads the Physically Handicapped Association. He considers health a very important issue for students studying in government schools. Last year he organised a health exhibition in his school. He also took the initiative to start a project called Bal Siksha Gram which involves the setting up of a village in the school premises to teach students about the rural lifestyle.
