After having already got its proposal cleared by the Union Ministry of Human Resource Development (HRD) to set up the countrys first-of-its-kind prestigious Tagore Centre in the 150th anniversary year of Rabindranath Tagore,the Indian Institute of Advance Studies (IIAS) will soon have another feather in its cap.
IIAS Chairman Bhalchandra Mungekar,who was in town for an international conference,said the Institute will soon have a centre of United nations development Programme (UNDP). A series of initiatives and programmes are underway to make IIAS a true centre of internationally acclaimed scholarly pursuits. Teams of UNDP,led by its country Director Caitlin Wiesen is in town,to finalise things, he told The Indian Express.
The UNDP United Nations global development network to share knowledge,experience and resources to help people and communities across the world has found IIAS environment,infrastructure and human resource as most suitable for a long term tie-up.
Preliminary discussions and exchange of views have been held with the UNDP. Now,since the institute chairman and UNDP team is also here,the modalities are likely to be finalised for collaboration, said an IIAS spokesman.
UNDP advocates for the Millennium Development Goals,the concept of human development and the need to empower women. Under the overarching goal of poverty eradication,UNDP has been focusing on areas like poverty reduction,democratic governance,crisis prevention and recovery,environment and energy.
