With the arrest of two Mohali youths on Friday,the local police claimed to have solved a year-old murder case of an ice-cream vendor,Sunil Kumar.
Kumar,in his mid-30s,and a resident of Industrial Area,Phase I,was allegedly assaulted with hockey sticks on the night of August 22,2008 in Phase VIII and succumbed to his serious head injuries two days later.
A Special Investigation Team (SIT),comprising Superintendents of Police (City and Detective),DSP (City-II) and Phase VIII SHO,was constituted to make headway in the case.
Preliminary investigations revealed that the victim was embroiled in an altercation with a youth,few days before the murder, revealed DSP (City-II) Swarandeep Singh.
Investigations pointed to the involvement of Kuljinder Saini of Phase I and Lalit Sharma of Phase IX,both in their mid-20s.
During interrogation,they confessed to killing Kumar in retaliation to an altercation between the vendor and their friend Goldy of Phase III, said the DSP,adding that Goldy was still on the run while Saini and Sharma were remanded to three-day police custody.
