I-T Department conducts raid on Punjab Congress MLA Rana Gurjeet’s houses
The I-T raids were on in Kapurthala, Chandigarh, and Jalandhar establishments of Congress MLA Rana Gurjeet Singh.

Several teams of the Income Tax Department Thursday morning conducted raids on the premises of Punjab Congress MLA Rana Gurjeet Singh in Kapurthala, Chandigarh, and Jalandhar.
Officials said the I-T Department teams arrived at the Sector 4 residence of the Congress leader in Chandigarh at around 6.30 am, and started conducting their search. No one was allowed to leave the premises, and Singh was reportedly present at the house when the raid took place.
Simultaneous raids also took place at the MLA Hostel official residence of Rana Gurjeet Singh in Chandigarh, as well as his establishments in Jalandhar and Kapurthala.
Rana Gurjeet Singh represented the Jalandhar Lok Sabha constituency from 2004 to 2009. He had been a Cabinet minister in the Punjab Government, and handled portfolios like power and irrigation.
His political career reflects the complex interplay of power, business interests, and public service in Indian politics, marked by achievements and controversies.
He faced allegations of impropriety related to sand mining contracts in Punjab, leading to his resignation from the Cabinet in January 2018. There have been instances of legal proceedings and public scrutiny regarding his business dealings, particularly in relation to how contracts were awarded and managed.
In the 2022 Punjab Assembly elections, Rana Gurjeet Singh won his seat in Kapurthala, defeating his nearest Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) rival. His son, Rana Inder Pratap Singh, also won from Sultanpur Lodhi, contesting as an Independent, which highlights the family’s political influence in the region.
However, his ambitions for central politics were reportedly thwarted when he did not secure a ticket for himself or his son for the Lok Sabha elections from Anandpur Sahib or Khadoor Sahib in 2024.
Born in Udham Singh Nagar, Uttarakhand, Rana Gurjeet is known for his involvement in agriculture and business. His educational qualification is listed as having cleared Class 10, and he is noted for his assets, making him one of the richest MLAs in the Punjab Assembly.
