Hunger strike by govt teachers enters day 3

The district unit of Punjab State Government Aided School Teachers and other employees’ union continued their hunger strike at the Deputy Commissioner’s office for the third consecutive day on Wednesday.

The district unit of Punjab State Government Aided School Teachers and other employees’ union continued their hunger strike at the Deputy Commissioner’s office for the third consecutive day on Wednesday.

The teachers were demanding for a merger of government-aided schools with government schools. According to the union’s office-bearers,5,000 posts of teachers are lying vacant in these schools,while many have not been paid for years.

“The SC ruled vacant posts of teachers in government-aided schools must be filled within 6 months but nothing has been done so far,” said Principal Avtar Singh Gill. Meanwhile,Deputy Commissioner Tejinderpal Singh Sidhu assured he would bring the issue to the CM’s notice.
