The Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) Tuesday appointed 1997-batch IPS officer Surendra Singh Yadav as the Director General of Police (DGP) of Chandigarh Police, thereby revoking its earlier order on February 9 that appointed 1995-batch Madhup Kumar Tiwari as the DGP. “In modification of MHA's order of the same number dated February 9, Surendra Singh Yadav is hereby transferred from Delhi and posted as DGP, Chandigarh. Additionally, the transfer/ posting of Madhup Kumar Tiwari is hereby cancelled with immediate effect and until further orders,” the revised order stated. Sources said that the MHA also revoked the February 9 orders, according to which Yadav was posted as DGP of Andaman and Nicobar Islands. The exact reasons behind this development are yet to be disclosed. Yadav will replace the incumbent 1993-batch AGMUT cadre IPS DGP (UT) Praveer Ranjan. On February 9, MHA had transferred Praveer Ranjan, a 1993-batch AGMUT cadre IPS officer, to the position of Additional Director General in the Central Industrial Security Force (CISF). Ranjan is yet to be relieved from Chandigarh. Currently, Yadav is stationed in Delhi as Special CP Traffic (Zone-2) with an additional charge of MD, Delhi Police Housing Corporation (DPHC) Ltd. He has served in various capacities in the Delhi Police and is recognised for several initiatives for the welfare of police officers. He hails from Rajasthan. Interestingly, the new DGP is senior to Home Secretary (HS) Nitin Yadav, a 2000-batch Haryana cadre IAS officer batch wise. This chronological hierarchy came to light when Nitin Yadav was given the officiating charge of adviser to the UT administrator last year.
