Hindu outfit leader’s death: Police reject Khalistan role

On Tuesday, various Hindu organisations, including Shiv Sena and Bajrang Dal, raised anti-Khalistan slogans in the markets of Sirhind and forced shops to close down.

Police on Wednesday denied the involvement of Khalistani supporters in the murder of Manish alias Bunty Sood, the leader of Akhil Bhartiya Hindu Suraksha Samiti, who was shot by his own bodyguard in Sirhind late on Monday.

On Tuesday, various Hindu organisations, including Shiv Sena and Bajrang Dal, raised anti-Khalistan slogans in the markets of Sirhind and forced shops to close down. They alleged that the bodyguard Somnath was “supported and paid” by Khalistan. As the protest built up, some Sikh groups raised pro-Khalistan slogans.

Police have said that Sood was drinking along with Somnath when an argument escalated into shooting. “The Khalistan theory is rubbish. The accused has confessed that it was the result of aggression from both sides. Both Sood and Somnath had entered into an argument that led to the incident,” said Karan Sher Singh, DSP (D), Fatehgarh Sahib to The Indian Express.
