‘He was Deputy CM, was MLA for 18 years, why didn’t he turn Panchkula into Paris then?”: BJP’S Gian Chand Gupta
BJP candidate Gian Chand Gupta says he 'got works of Rs 5,500 crore done in Panchkula'

With Haryana Assembly polls on October 5, it’s a keen contest in Panchkula as BJP’S Gian Chand Gupta and Congress’s Chander Mohan are locked in a close battle yet again. This time, AAP’s entry has made it a triangular contest.
Gupta and Mohan had a face-off in 2019 elections as well where Mohan lost by a margin of 5,385 votes.
Speaking to The Indian Express, Gupta, sitting Panchkula MLA, took on his opponent stating that “Chander Mohan had the opportunity to make Panchkula the Paris of Haryana for 18 years but failed to do so”.
“What do I say about him (Chander Mohan)? All I can say is that even after contesting the last Vidhan Sabha polls in 2019, where was he for five years? Was he there with people even after he lost? He just disappeared,” Gupta stated.
The BJP candidate who has been campaigning in back-to-back rallies stated that “people will be voting for BJP this time again”.
“Chander Mohan was Deputy Chief Minister of Haryana. He was MLA for 18-20 years and had so many opportunities to make the city Paris of Haryana. Why didn’t he make it then? Was he ever seen? Moreover, does he even have a list of works he did for the city. He can’t even name a single work he did,” he alleged.
Gupta stated that “people should vote for him on the basis of development works he did in the city”.
“Before campaigning, I even released a booklet of development works and that I got works of Rs 5,500 crore done in Panchkula…and it’s all visible on the ground,” he said.
About his priorities, he said, “Once I am elected, my first and foremost priority which I am already working on shall be to make Panchkula slum free,” Gupta said.
He added,” Though we had already begun to work on rehabilitation of the slums colonies ..it will be completed now and Panchkula will become slum free entirely.”
Panchkula has about 2.24 lakh votes of which 45-50 percent votes are that of Aggarwal community.
Gian Chand Gupta has been fielded for the third time in a row. He contested in 2014 and 2019 and was elected. In 2019, he was also appointed as Speaker in the BJP government.
Gupta has been quite vocal about the stilt-plus-four-floors order passed by the government. He had stated that he even spoke to the Chief Minister telling him how the order of lifting the ban on stilt-plus-four-floors was passed.
Gupta, 76, began his political career from Chandigarh while he was the BJP unit chief and was also elected as mayor of Chandigarh Then he shifted to Panchkula in 2002.
