The Punjab and Haryana High Court today directed the Chandigarh Administration to decide a representation moved by Malwinder Jit Singh Waraich,a resident of Panchkula wherein he has sought shifting of exhibits of the country’s freedom struggle from National Gallery of Portraits building in Sector 17,Chandigarh to Museum Complex,Sector 10,Chandigarh.

The petitioner,Malwinder Jit Singh Waraich,a resident of Panchkula had moved the High Court and contended that the ceiling of the National Gallery of Portraits has been leaking for the past two years with no end in sight. The petitioner had demanded that till the problem is rectified, the exhibits should be transferred from the National Gallery to Sector 10 Museum. The petition further reads that “the present location is virtually inaccessible at present which is evidenced by the number of visitors in a day which average 10 as reflected in the visitors register”.

To highlight the pitiable condition of the building in which the portraits have been kept, the petitioner had annexed photographs published by The Indian Express. Today, the High Court disposed of a petition directing the Administration to decide Waraich’s representation within two months.
