HC junks YouTuber’s plea seeking protection from fellow vloggers, says charges vague
Hearing the matter, a bench of Justice Jasgurpreet Singh Puri held that a perusal of the petition as well as the representation/complaint to the police shows that there is no such specific incident which has been so mentioned in the complaint/representation.

Finding the allegations made in the representation to be totally vague, the Punjab and Haryana High Court has dismissed the plea of a popular YouTube vlogger and social media influencer, Sandeep alias Armaan Malik, his family and others, seeking protection of life and liberty from other YouTubers.
The petitioners (Malik and others) through their counsel had submitted before the high court that a representation was made to SSP, Mohali, on June 30, 2023, in this regard, but no action has been taken by the police so far. It was further submitted that the private respondents are constantly threatening the petitioners on YouTube, but the police are not taking any action.
The grievance of the petitioners is that their life and liberty should be protected at the hands of the private respondents, who, according to their counsel, are uploading defaming videos on YouTube and also instigating people to protest against the petitioners and to harm the petitioners.
Hearing the matter, a bench of Justice Jasgurpreet Singh Puri held that a perusal of the petition as well as the representation/complaint to the police shows that there is no such specific incident which has been so mentioned in the complaint/representation. Although apprehension has been expressed that through YouTube the private respondents are instigating the people, the allegations made in the complaint/representation appear to be totally vague.
“In the absence of any real threat, no such petition can be entertained for seeking direction to the police,” said the high court.
The bench however made it clear that the dismissal of the present petition would not disentitle the petitioners to file any complaint in future in case there is any real threat from the private respondents and that too in accordance with law to the police station concerned and in case any complaint is filed based upon some real threat then it is expected that the police shall take appropriate action strictly in accordance with law.
