Haryana Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini Wednesday met the family of ASI Sandeep Kumar, who allegedly died by suicide at his maternal uncle's house Tuesday, in Rohtak and said the government will “thoroughly investigate the reasons that forced him to take this extreme step”. Sandeep Kumar’s relatives have yet to give their consent for his post-mortem examination, and are demanding the registration of a criminal case against all those who supported the family of IPS officer Y Puran Kumar, who also died by suicide on October 7. They are also demanding that his “suicide” case be thoroughly investigated, and the culprits must be punished. Talking to his family members, Haryana Chief Minister Saini said, “The government will thoroughly investigate the reasons that forced Sandeep Kumar to take this extreme step. We are all with you. Justice will surely be delivered”. Before allegedly dying by suicide, Sandeep Kumar left behind a four-page "final note" in which he levelled corruption accusations against Y Puran Kumar, and demanded that his assets be thoroughly investigated. He also left behind a six-minute video in which he defended former Haryana director general of police Shatrujeet Singh Kapoor and Narendra Bijarniya, the ex-Rohtak superintendent of police, calling them "honest and upright officers". He was posted with Rohtak police's Cyber Cell, and was part of the team that arrested Head Constable Sushil Kumar, who was Y Puran Kumar's personal security officer, in connection with a bribery allegation levelled by a liquor businessman. Sandeep Kumar is survived by his wife, two daughters and a son. His father, Dayanand, who retired from Haryana Police as an inspector, passed away in a train accident 20 years ago.
