Deputy District Prosecutor Arun Bansal and Assistant District Prosecutor Navdeep said that the prosecution built a strong case.
A man who bludgeoned his differently-abled wife with a brick to her death, suspecting her character, was handed down life imprisonment by a Fatehabad court.
Sentencing convict Harbhej Singh, a resident of Ladhuwas village in Fatehabad, Additional District and Sessions Judge Hemant Yadav also imposed a fine of Rs 15,000 on him.
According to Fatehabad Superintendent of Police Siddhant Jain, the accused harboured suspicions about the character of his wife, and on the night of March 29, 2023, he struck her on the head with a brick, killing her on the spot. “In an attempt to mislead the authorities, he hung her body at the village community centre to make the murder appear as a suicide. However, swift police action, scientific investigation, and forensic evidence exposed the truth,” the police said in a statement.
“The police reached the scene promptly and launched a detailed investigation under Inspector Kuldeep Singh. Their findings confirmed that the incident was not a suicide, but a premeditated murder. The accused was arrested the following day. After a thorough inquiry, the final report was prepared and submitted to the court in June 2023. Forensic analysis, post-mortem results, and witnesses’ testimonies formed the backbone of the case presented before the judiciary,” the police said.
Deputy District Prosecutor Arun Bansal and Assistant District Prosecutor Navdeep said that the prosecution built a strong case.
“Convinced by the evidence and arguments, the court found Harbhej guilty and handed down the sentence of life imprisonment,” the police said.
The police added, “The court emphasised the crime was not merely the murder of a woman, but a grave violation of her dignity and the trust inherent in marital relationships. No husband has the right to kill his wife merely based on suspicion. In such cases, harsh punishment is necessary to send a strong message to society.”
Superintendent of Police Siddhant Jain said, “The verdict is proof that escaping the law is impossible.”
