Four days after senior Haryana IPS officer Y Puran Kumar was found dead with a gunshot wound at his residence, the Chandigarh Police said his body was Saturday shifted to the Postgraduate Institute of Medical Education and Research (PGIMER) where a medical board is likely to conduct the post-mortem. The development comes after state Home Secretary Dr Sumita Mishra held a meeting with Kumar’s wife and IAS officer Amneet P Kumar that lasted an hour on Friday night. Amneet and other family members are, however, yet to give formal consent for the post-mortem. Chandigarh Director General of Police (DGP) Sagar Preet Hooda has arrived at the residence to convince them and obtain consent. The BJP has also sent Cabinet minister Krishan Bedi and senior officers to hold discussions with Amneet. The IPS officer’s body had been kept at the Government Hospital in Sector-16 after Amneet raised allegations of “dilution” of the First Information Report (FIR) lodged in the wake of the death, and demanded that the names of IPS and IAS officers named in Kumar’s “final note” be included as “accused”. Amneet's brother Amit Rattan, who is the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) MLA from Punjab’s Bathinda Rural constituency, said, “The Chandigarh Police has shifted the body to PGIMER without our consent. It has been five days since a senior IPS officer died, and we have not yet got justice.” A case has already been registered at the Sector 11 police station based on the “final note” left behind by Kumar, before he allegedly shot himself dead at his residence. In the purported note, he had named nine serving IPS officers, one retired IPS officer, and three retired IAS officers, blaming them for making him take the extreme step. Amneet had subsequently lodged a complaint with the Chandigarh police seeking the arrest of Haryana DGP Shatrujeet Singh Kapur and Rohtak Superintendent of Police (SP) Narendra Bijarniya. A six-member Special Investigation Team (SIT) has been formed under the leadership of Pushpendra Kumar, Inspector General of Police, to investigate the matter. Amneet had demanded that the names of the accused be mentioned in the FIR’s Column No. 7 (known/ suspected/ unknown accused), and that DGP Kapur and SP Bijarniya be immediately removed from their posts and arrested. The Haryana government, however, has yet to take a decision in this regard. In the wake of Kumar’s death, Congress leader Sonia Gandhi wrote to Amneet on Friday night, expressing her condolences. Several party leaders, including Rajya Sabha MP Randeep Singh Surjewala, Lok Sabha MPs Deepender Hooda and Varun Chaudhary, and MLAs Geeta Bhukkal and Shakuntla Khatak met Amneet on Saturday morning.
