On Friday, when Vij was asked whether the Nuh violence was the outcome of an “intelligence failure” he had said: “Who had (intelligence) inputs? What type of these inputs were? Who was briefed? We will get it probed”. (File Photo) After announcing a probe over the working of the intelligence system related to the possible build-up of tension in Haryana’s Nuh on July 31, state Home Minister Anil Vij said Sunday only Chief Minister Manohar Lal Khattar has information regarding the matter.
Six people, including two home guards, were killed and scores were injured and displaced after the communal violence that erupted in Nuh on July 31, and also spread to nearby Gurgaon. Days after the communal violence in the district, authorities demolished scores of houses and other structures.
On August 4, Vij had said 202 people have been arrested in connection with the violence and 80 taken into preventive detention over the violence that began July 31 during a yatra organised by the VHP and the Bajrang Dal.
When asked about the current situation in Nuh and the restoration of internet services, Vij said: “Bhai, Nuh ke bare me aab jo batayenge, mukhyamanti ji batayenge… unhi ke paas sari soochnaye hai. Mujhe nahin kuchh bhi pata (Brother, now only the chief minister will tell about the Nuh incident. I have no information).”
Talking to journalists in Ambala, the home minister said: “Jo kuchh maine kehna tha mein keh chuka (I have said whatever I had to say (on Nuh))”.
The remarks by the senior BJP leader and six-time MLA are seen as his displeasure apparently over not being kept in the loop over the Nuh episode.
On Friday, when Vij was asked whether the Nuh violence was the outcome of an “intelligence failure” he had said: “Who had (intelligence) inputs? What type of these inputs were? Who was briefed? We will get it probed”.
“Such a big matter can’t be (resolved) without a probe. I have asked for a probe to know at what level there was (intelligence) information, who had such information and up to what level of the officer the information was shared,” he had added.
In January 2020, after a showdown between the Haryana home minister and the CM over control of CID, Vij was officially stripped of the charge of the state CID (intelligence wing).
