A large number of teachers under the Haryana government on Monday protested outside the Education Department office blocking the dividing road of Sector 2 and 5 for several hours. Teachers protested for several hours and also raised slogans against the government outside the Shiksha Sadan office. Protesting teachers sought that a large number of them who are currently on contract should be regularised and also demanded that the government follow the right to education (RTE) norms in deploying the staff in the schools. They sought that the government employ the staff as per the strength of the students under the RTE.

The protesting teachers also burnt the effigy of Haryana Education Minister,Geeta Bhukkal, and also raised slogans against the government. Earlier the teachers had gathered in the open ground outside the Shiksha Sadan office in the morning and they later spilled on to the main road and blocked it for several hours.

A large number of police personnel were already deployed around the area in view of the visit of Union Social Justice Minister,Kumari Selja,to the city and police had a tough time controlling the protesting teachers. Police had set up barricades on the Sector 5 main road to prevent the march of the teachers to the auditorium where the minister was a chief guest at a function.
