Infighting in the Haryana unit of Congress is on a high once again. Several MLAs, who are seeking ouster of Haryana Pradesh Congress Committee president Ashok Tanwar, have sought time from party president Sonia Gandhi and vice-president Rahul Gandhi to raise their demand for change in leadership.
Of the 15 MLAs in the state, 12 had met Shakeel Ahmed, incharge of the party unit, on April 14 and put forth their complaints against Tanwar.
The MLAs said that during the recent Sadbhavna rallies organised by Tanwar, statements were made against former Haryana chief minister Bhupinder Singh Hooda.

Besides the former Haryana CM, party leader Randeep Singh Surjewala along with Congress Legislature Party leader Kiran Choudhry and others also met Ahmed. Thereafter, they sought time from the party high command to push for change of leadership in the state.
“Abusive language was used against Hooda. Capt Ajay Yadav made statements that he will not be allowed to become the chief minister again. Instead of warning him, the party president took him to rallies in Rohtak and Jhajjar. It was not a Sadbhavna rally, it was rather a Durbhavna rally. The PCC failed to criticise the BJP government. It was only a Hooda-bashing programme,” said an Assembly legislator from the party while talking to The Indian Express.
Taking a dig at the protesting MLAs, Yadav said they are unable to digest the success of Sadbhavna rallies held in different districts.
“These legislators have not attended even one programme. These are official programmes of the Congress and everyone should be a part of it. It is not a good sign. Instead they keep talking of bringing about a change in leadership,” Yadav lamented.
Tanwar, when contacted, said the Sadbhavna rallies have received a tremendous response and that the party will continue with its work.
On the issue of MLAs seeking time to meet the party high command, he said these were internal party matters and he would not like to comment on it.
The differences within the party unit were visible after the Jat quota agitation, when Tanwar and Choudhry toured the state together, while Hooda along with his loyalists made visits separately.
