The Gurgaon city traffic police on Tuesday, during its routine check at Kushal Chowk, stopped a vehicle with an unusual rear number plate.
On the number plate was written ‘DIESELICIOUS’ and on verification it was found that the car had pending fines totalling Rs 45,000.
“Acting on the directions of Dr Rajesh Mohan, Deputy Commissioner of Police (Traffic), Gurgaon, the traffic police impounded the vehicle at Kushal Chowk on Tuesday.
The operation was supervised by Assistant Commissioner of Police (Traffic Headquarters/Highway) Satyapal Yadav,” a spokesperson stated.
Traffic personnel, including Sub-Inspector Vijay and Constable Ram Meher found the car to have 22 pending challans, including 15 for speeding, four for wrong parking, one for wrong-side driving, one for jumping a red light.
The traffic police promptly impounded the vehicle, and moved it to the designated parking area in Leisure Valley, Sector 29. The action was taken due to the non-payment of fines for challans pending for over 90 days.
As part of ongoing efforts to enforce traffic regulations, the Gurgaon Traffic Police regularly check vehicles for unpaid fines pending for over 90 days under Section 167(8) of the Motor Vehicles Act. During these checks, drivers are informed about their pending challans and urged to clear them promptly to avoid detention of their vehicles, the spokesperson said.
The traffic police have recently urged all vehicle owners to install High-Security Registration Plates (HSRP) on their vehicles. “Compliance with HSRP norms aids in identifying vehicles involved in mischievous, criminal, or anti-social activities, assisting law enforcement in maintaining order. Drivers are advised to settle pending challans immediately to avoid similar action,” the spokesperson stated.
