Governor Urmila Singh on Friday reiterated the government’s resolve to fight against corruption, provide time-bound services to the people and ensure faster and balanced growth of the state which, she claimed, had already witnessed a spectacular all-round development in the past four years of the BJP government.

“In the past four years, the government has achieved new milestones in different sectors for which the state has been awarded 58 awards by the government of India, international agencies and prestigious institutions of the country, which is a matter of pride for all of us,” she said, addressing the opening day of the Assembly’s budget session here. The address focused extensively on major development initiatives taken by the government in the sectors of power generation, horticulture, infrastructure development, road construction, industrial and tourism promotion.

Singh said the government had not only fulfilled all the promises it had made before the last Assembly polls but had also implemented some innovative policies and welfare schemes. She particularly mentioned the move to enact a law for time-bound delivery of basic public services to the people. “Twelve departments have already been brought under the purview of the Himachal Pradesh Public Services Guarantee Act,2011,” she added.

She reiterated the government resolve against corruption and said a new legislation,Himachal Pradesh Special Courts (Attachment and Confiscation of Properties) Bill,2011,was an answer to deal with corruption. The Bill was awaiting approval of the President. “The monitoring of the progress of criminal cases and departmental enquiries is being done regularly at a high level. The state government is committed to eradicating corruption from the state,” she said.
