Owing to the delay caused by the Fire Department in sending fire tenders to the spot in time,goods worth several lakhs were gutted when a showroom in Sector 15,Panchkula,caught fire on Friday morning. The fire reportedly destroyed 11 booths which were housed in the showroom.
Angry at the delay,the shopkeepers whose shops were destroyed in the accident protested against the fire department. They claimed that despite repeated calls,fire tenders arrived after 30 minutes.
The fire broke out around 5.30 am. Short circuit is said to have caused the fire. The shopkeepers alleged that they tried to call up the fire department,but no one picked up their call initially. The Fire Department was finally informed about the fire by the Police Control Room about 6.10 am after which three fire tenders were rushed to the spot. However,by the time the fire tenders arrived,the shops and the goods inside the shop had been damaged. The showroom housed 11 small shops. A majority of shops were dealing in clothes which were destroyed in the fire.
The fire was controlled by 8.15 am. The exact loss and the cause of the fire is yet to to be ascertained.
